### What you need to know Shared decision-making is widely accepted as a core feature of good healthcare. Principle 4 the NHS constitution states that “Patients, with their families and carers, where appropriate, will be involved in consulted on all decisions about care treatment.”1 Because most practitioners commissioners acknowledge this involvement consultation not always offered, National Institute for Health Care Excellence (NICE) was asked produce guidance facilitating shared embedding it everyday practice. For purposes guideline, defined “a collaborative process involves person healthcare professional working together reach joint decision care.” This article summarises recommendations from NICE guideline.2 NICE are based systematic reviews best available evidence.
